 NEW YORK BUILD 01The New York Build 2018 construction and design expo celebrates successes.

New York Build 2018, the leading construction and design expo in New York City and the state of New York, showcased the finest talent in the sector and connected visitors with the leading contractors, developers, architects, government and other construction industry professionals March 19-20 at the Javits Center.  

There were more than 15,000 total registered attendees. Of that number, more than 3,000 registered for the women in construction panel, more than 700 registered for the minority and women-owned business (M/WBE) panel and networking session and nearly 650 registered for the NYC Construction Awards.

World class architects, engineers, brokers, government agencies and developers and others were among some of the thousands of industry professionals who attended and learned about the latest projects, news industry standards and technologies.

New York Build 2018 featured more than 100 exhibitors, more than 90 top-level speakers and AIA/CES approved training workshops across eight specialist summits covering government policy and contracts, sustainability, future construction, residential construction and affordable homes, health and safety, real estate and development, flooding resiliency, architecture and digital construction and the women in construction and M/WBE networking events.

Women in Construction

This popular gathering of construction and design industry experts offered a lively discussion consisting of leading female experts within the industry and included:

* Ingrid Sletten, president of the National Association for Women in Construction (NAWIC) and business manager of Xact Contracting;

* Francine Monaco, principal at D'Aquino Monaco;

* Lissa So, founding partner, Marvel Architects;

* Herlema Owens, founder, Association of Women Construction Workers of America; and

* Debra Inwald, founder and principal, Works-in-Progress Associates.

M/WBE Panel

This panel explored what issues M/WBEs face in the construction sector and discussed how to address adversity. Attendees heard from representatives including the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York, WSP, CDT EHS Consulting LLC, Columbia University, The Edward J. Malloy Initiative for Construction Skills and KELRA Consultants. Panelists included:

* Santos Rodriguez, director of community affairs and  strategic initiatives for the Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York;

* Crystal D. Turner-Moffatt, safety and security Manager at WSP and president of CDT EHS Consulting LLC;

* Tanya Pope, assistant vice president of university supplier diversity and Business Integration at Columbia University;

* Nicole Bertran, executive vice president, The Edward J. Malloy Initiative for Construction Skills; and

* Kendra Logan, AIA, architectural and forensic consultant.

The premier media partner for New York Build 2018 was The Real Deal, a prominent New York City real estate publication that provides compelling industry news, in-depth reports and profiles. Other media partners included The Architect's Newspaper, New York Real Estate Journal, Construction Today, e-architect and Epoch Group, among others. Event partners included the Queens Chamber of Commerce, Greater New York Chamber of Commerce, NAWIC, The Building Trades Employers' Association, The Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York and many more.

Companies interested in securing a booth for New York Build 2019 should do so now. Exhibitor booths for New York Build 2018 sold out four months in advance. New York Build will be back from March 12-13, 2019 in Hall 1A at the Javits Center.
